Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary | Karnataka | Travel Attractions

Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary known as the "Pakshi Kashi" (Bird Paradise) of Karnataka is the largest bird sanctuary in the state. Located on the banks of the Kaveri River near Srirangapatna, it comprises six small islets that serve as a critical nesting and breeding ground for over 170 species of resident and migratory birds. Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary primary attraction is a ranger-guided boat tour through the islets. These rides offer close-up views of nesting birds and marsh crocodiles (Muggers) basking on the rocks. You can spot various species including Painted Storks, Spot-billed Pelicans, Asian Openbill Storks, Spoonbills, and Black-headed Ibis at Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary. The nesting season peaks between June and November. Migratory birds are best spotted from December to March. Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary is open daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (boating typically ends by 5:30 PM). Early morning visits are recommended for the best bird activity and to avoid crowds.
