Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary | Gujarat | Travel

Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary located about 12 km from Jamnagar in Gujarat is a unique wetland ecosystem recognized as a Ramsar Site (Wetland of International Importance). Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary is famous for being one of the few places in India where freshwater lakes and saltwater marshes exist side-by-side, separated only by a reclamation bund. The peak season for Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary is November to February, when thousands of migratory birds from Siberia and Europe arrive. Early morning (around 6:30 AM) is recommended for the best sightings. Home to over 300 species, iconic sightings in Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary include the Great Crested Grebe (rare breeding ground), Flamingos, Pelicans, Painted Storks, and the Indian Skimmer. The nearest airport to Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary is Jamnagar Airport (approx. 24 km).
